No. Any household in economic need can apply at any time, as long as they meet the financial requirements to be eligible for Food Stamps in their state.

7.     Is there an age limit for a senior to renew or apply for a driver’s license?

In general, there is no age limit for a senior to renew or apply for a driver’s license in the United States. However, requirements on how a senior driver may be able to do so can be different depending on the state the person lives in. For example, you may need to get your vision tested in certain states.

8.     What are some of the most common physical impairments that may relate to senior drivers?

Senior drivers often present with the following physical impairments:

    • Weakened eyesight
    • Diminished hearing
    • Slower reflexes
    • Stiff joints or muscles
    • Dementia and other progressive diseases.

For this reason, it’s important that they check in frequently with their doctors and get tested to make sure they are fit to drive a vehicle.

9.     What is the most common test senior drivers may encounter upon renewing or applying for a driver’s license?

The rules that check whether a senior driver is able to drive change from state to state. However, in general, a vision test is part of most assessments when a senior needs to renew his or her driver’s license.

10.    Do VA health care benefits cover PTSD?

Yes, VA health care benefits help cover treatments for PTSD. The VA works with the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through several different programs.

11.    Does the VA handle burials and memorial services?

Yes, the VA offers burial and memorial options to eligible service members and family members in more than 128 national cemeteries throughout the United States.

12.    Is there a way to track my prescriptions and medications online as a senior veteran?

Veterans can sign up for the VA’s online portal, which is a program that allows beneficiaries to refill prescriptions, track their prescription history and see their medication list all in one place.

13.    What are the different income requirements for HUD and USDA federal housing programs?

While both HUD and USDA have several different housing programs for low-income seniors and their families, each program has its own income guidelines that need to be met. These guidelines will be listed in the program and include an extremely low income, a very low income and a low income. An extremely low income means that you need ot make less than 30 percent of your area’s median income levels. Very low means you make less than 50 percent and low requires means you earn less than 80 percent of the median earnings.

14.    What are the age requirements for HUD and USDA federal housing programs?

Most of the senior citizen federal housing programs will require a senior to be at least 62 years of age, although there are some exceptions for disabled individuals. Also, families who are trying to apply for a federal housing program need to include a head of household, spouse or sole member who meets the age requirement for the program. Keep in mind that if you cannot meet the age requirements, there may be non-senior programs available to you with different requirements.

15.    What is Section 8 housing and how does it work?

Section 8 housing gives housing vouchers to people who meet the criteria terms on family status, citizenship, income and eviction history. The people who are accepted into the program will get aid in housing costs for public and private housing. Generally, Section 8 has a long waiting list and if you are eligible you will probably need to wait to get help.

16.    How affordable are senior apartments?

Senior apartments are generally linked to a lower cost than apartments that are not for seniors. Senior apartments are a much cheaper option than continuing care retirement communities including independent living, assisted living and nursing care facility options. Some senior apartments are even exclusive for low-income senior citizens, with a reduced rental rate.

Estate planning involves organizing your assets and property to be handled correctly when you die. It includes a will, trusts, property and gift designations, and you may need to designate beneficiaries and who is allowed to make decisions on your behalf.

18.    Do I need to hire an attorney for my estate planning?

Estate planning involves several legal complexities, so it may be helpful to hire an attorney to handle all the different aspects of your estate. You are not legally obligated to hire an attorney, but it would definitely help you along the way.

19.    Who benefits from my life insurance policy?

Life insurance policies have different purposes and end results. You can choose dependents or beneficiaries who will get assistance if or when you die. You are in charge of naming these beneficiaries, so you determine who gets to benefit from your life insurance policy.
