We are not affiliated with the government in any way. We are a private company that engaged writers to research the Food Stamps program and compiled a guide and the following answers to frequently asked questions. Our goal is to help you get the benefits that you need by providing useful information on the process. We are not providing legal or financial advice. If you need such advice, please contact an attorney or a financial advisor.
2. Where do we get our information?
Our team of writers does research online. Then we put the information in one place and in a clear way to make things easier for you.
3. Are we the government?
No, we are not the government. Our company is private. We find information that’s already online, but we put it together to make things easier for you. We want to give you the best help that we can.
4. Is my information protected?
We believe in the importance of keeping your data safe. If you decide to give us your data while using our website, we use many different protections to help keep it safe. To learn more about how we protect your information, check out our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
5. How can I tell if I might get food stamps?
You might be able to use an online tool to find out ahead of time to help you determine if you might get SNAP benefits. A lot of states have online tools that you can use to check if you might qualify. You can look at common requirements on our website, too.
6. Can college students get food stamps?
A lot of college students cannot get food stamps. But there are some exemptions. You might be able to get food stamps if you are a college student and you:
- Have a disability.
- Regularly work more than 80 hours a month.
- Take care of kids who depend on you at home, if those kids are younger than 6.
7. Can I get emails about my food stamps application?
You might be able to sign up for emails about your food stamps application. Different states have different systems. If your state gives email updates, you will usually have to register for them online. Then you can get emails while you wait to find out if you may get benefits.
8. How can I tell if I won’t be getting food stamps?
Two things might happen to let you know that you won’t be getting food stamps. The food stamp office might send you a denial letter, or you might get a message on your online account. The letter and/or notice should usually tell you why you did not get food stamps.
9. How long will it take to get my EBT card?
You should get your EBT card by mail in as few as seven days or as much as 30 days after you are approved for the SNAP program. The EBT card is what you will use to pay for food at stores that accept food stamps.
10. Do food stamps benefits carry over if I don’t use them all this month?
Yes. If you don’t use up all your food stamps benefits for one month, they will typically carry over into the next month.
11. Someone knows my EBT card PIN. What can I do?
You can call your local food stamp office and make a new PIN number.
12. Can I ask for a hearing if I don’t get food stamps?
Yes. If you want to have a hearing in court, you can contact the Office of Appeal Hearings in your state. In most states, you can either have your appeal by phone or in person, whichever you prefer.
13. My food stamps are going to expire. Do I have to apply again if nothing changed?
Yes. To keep getting SNAP benefits, you have to reapply when your benefits are about to expire.
